“The Rookie” is an amazing show.

ABC’s hit show “The Rookie” focuses on John Nolan (Nathan Fillion from ABC’s Castle) who starts a new life after a life altering incident makes him reconsider his life choices. He moves to Los Angeles to join the LAPD as the oldest rookie in LAPD history. Nolan and his fellow rookies, Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Jackson West (Titus Makin Jr.) will dive head first into danger not knowing what to expect. The watch commander, Sergeant Grey (Richard T. Jones) assign each rookie to their new training officer who is best suited to teach them how to survive while hitting the streets. The rookie’s training officers, Talia Bishop (Afton Williamson), Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), and Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) will try to train three newbies while protecting the city they love.

This is television series is done extremely well. The writers do an amazing job at having a new and interesting threat each week that the rookies of the LAPD must resolve. “The Rookie” has some plot twists that will keep the audience on the edge of their chairs for the entire season. The comedy and action of the show is perfectly balanced. The backstory of all of the characters are very detailed and well thought out. The story line of each character is unique with backstories that form the type of officer they all become. While the show has some light hearted parts, it does not take away from intense action that fuels the television series. The show does their best to stay accurate to how real police do their job, while there are a few inconsistencies that happen from time to time, overall; the show is very accurate. The acting is amazing in this show. The cast does a phenomenal job portraying their characters in individual and unique ways. The dynamics between the rookies and their training officers are very comedic especially between Bradford and Chen. Fillion is an iconic actor who does an exceptional job at playing a 40 year old rookie starting a new chapter in his life. Winter does an excellent job at playing the harsh cop who tests his rookie every step of the way. The theme song “Kings & Queens” by ChinChin is a very fitting and catchy song for the show. The score of this show is a very fitting tone for the show.

“The Rookie” is a phenomena television show! This show never gets boring or old. The plot has kept me interested since the pilot. With great writing, acting, and editing this television show is one of my favorites. Each episode of “The Rookie” seems to improve from the previous episode.
